My friend, Kara, is the most multipurpose friend anyone could want. First, she’s geographically desirable. (She lives close.) Second, she takes anything mundane and makes it entertaining. We shop for groceries, go for long walks with her dog and exchange almost everything.
Here’s a typical conversation.
“Do you have any Piano Town Primer Lesson Books? I need two Primer and One Level One. And a carrot.”
“Yup. Got ’em right here. Do you have any poultry seasoning?”
“Yup. What time shall I swing by?”
This happens numerous times a week.
Last week there was a particularly successful exchange that resulted in a delicious dinner recipe I’d like to share. Maybe you have a friend who’s also in the same line of work and can share stories and advice, but just in case they don’t also provide dietary guidance, here’s the recipe.
Here’s the piano teacher way to make it:
Slow Cooker Chicken & Dumplings
Do all the prep sometime before noon and throw it all in the slow cooker. Before you start teaching, measure and mix all the dry ingredients for the dumplings. Measure the milk, too, so you won’t have to look for a measuring cup between lessons.
Between your last two students, sneak into the kitchen, throw together the dumplings and spoon them on top of the chicken and vegetables. This will take no more than 2 minutes.
Teach your last students, close the door and say hello to the yummiest dinner you’ve had in a long time.
I had a rough and busy week. Two Halloween Recitals, my daughter had three performances with the San Francisco Girls Chorus, I had Federal Jury Duty (got off for being opinionated – what a surprise!) and a death in the family.
